Here at Scottsdale Smile Center, we offer implant-supported dentures, also known as anchored dentures, to help patients enhance the strength of dentures and reduce the chance that they will move or slip along the gums. These procedures can sometimes serve as an alternative for patients who do not qualify as a candidate for full dental implants.
Although traditional dentures can be effective ways to replace missing teeth, they also have a number of drawbacks. Ill-fitting dentures can move inside the mouth, irritate the gums, and even be responsible for an embarrassing clicking sound. Dentures can also require messy, uncomfortable adhesives to stay in place. With implant-supported dentures, the dentures are anchored by implants to stabilize them and help preserve bone and gum tissue. Using what’s known as a mini-dental implant, our dentist can create a kind of artificial tooth root for your dentures, eliminating the need for adhesives and pastes and helping you attain a more natural feel among the teeth. The dentures are then snapped into place over the implants.
Anchor-supported dentures often require only one stage of treatment, as opposed to the three stages necessary for full dental implants. In many cases, they can be placed in a single visit. These effective denture stabilization options can also reduce instances of food getting trapped inside your dentures, enhance your ability to chew and speak without difficulty, and diminish the negative effects dentures can have on surrounding teeth and gums.
